The Hurtigruten ferry cruise is an excellent way to experience the Northern Lights. But do you really want to book an expensive Northern Lights cruise when there’s no guarantee you’ll see them? Hurtigruten understands this concern and has introduced a guarantee called: “The Northern Lights Promise.”
- Suppose you sail along the Norwegian coast during the auroral season, between September 20 and March 31, on a voyage of 11 days or more, and you don’t see the Northern Lights. In that case, you will receive a 6-day southbound or 7-day northbound Coastal Express voyage FREE OF CHARGE. Check the terms and conditions. ↓
The chances of seeing the Northern Lights in the mentioned period are high, and the ship’s deck officers monitor the skies for you. All cabins and suites on our ships are equipped with a Northern Lights alert, notifying you whenever the aurora is spotted—so you can quickly head to your window or step outside to witness the spectacle.
Northern Lights Promise Terms & Conditions
- This offer applies to all new bookings of voyages of 11 days or more along the Norwegian coast aboard The Coastal Express, The North Cape Line, and Hurtigruten from Hamburg, departing between 20 September and 31 March.
- A Northern Lights occurrence is defined as a sighting from the ship which is recorded by the ship’s deck officers and which is announced to passengers on board. An occurrence can last anything from a few minutes to a matter of hours, and the ships decision as to whether the Northern Lights occurred is final.
- Hurtigruten announces occurrences of the Northern Lights on board the ship, and you can receive announcements directly to your cabin or suite. Hurtigruten hopes you will see the Northern Lights during your 11-day or more voyage, but they cannot be held responsible if you don’t.
- Hurtigruten promises that in the event of there being no Northern Lights occurrence as defined above, you will receive a 6 or 7-day Original Coastal Express Classic Voyage, departing between 20 September and 31 March of the following year in an unspecified inside twin cabin on a full-board basis free of charge. You may upgrade to another cabin grade, subject to additional costs and availability. Please note that upgrading to suites with this offer may not be available.
- Hurtigruten reserves the right to withdraw or amend the offer at any time. Please check the current status of the offer at the time of booking. The offer must be claimed and booked within 28 days from your return date. You will be given a choice of departure dates.
- The offer excludes flights, transfers, all onboard expenses, excursions, and luggage handling. The offer does not apply to interrupted or cancelled cruises (for any reason) with the effect that (a) the actual length of the cruise in days is less than 11 days, and/or (b) the cruise does not call its scheduled embarkation or turnaround port, and/or (c) actual disembarkation of the cruise occurs in a port north of Trondheim. Bookings are non-transferable, non-changeable, and have no cash value. This offer is not combinable with claims for compensation, refunds or price reductions.
