Ferry from Ireland to England

On the route from Ireland to England, there are ferries departing from Dublin and Belfast to Liverpool Birkenhead. Depending on your location and availability, you can choose to travel on either of these ferries to England.

The ferries from Ireland to England (Liverpool) have a duration of approximately 8 hours, whether you take the Dublin to Liverpool route with P&O Ferries or the Belfast (Northern Ireland) to Liverpool route with Stena Line.

Ferry from Ireland to Wales

There are three direct connections if you want to travel from Ireland to Wales. From Rosslare (in the south of Ireland), you can travel to either Fishguard or Pembroke.

From Dublin, you can sail to Holyhead. If you're departing from Northern Ireland, you can sail from Belfast to Liverpool and then drive south to Wales.

The ferries from Ireland to Wales take around 3 hours and 30 minutes when leaving from Rosslare. The crossing from Dublin to Holyhead is the shortest route from Ireland to Wales.

Ferry to Scotland from Northern Ireland

When travelling from Northern Ireland, you can take a ferry from either Belfast or Larne to Cairnryan in Scotland. Both of these crossings are relatively short, with a total sailing time of around 2 hours to get across the Irish Sea.

When boarding the ferry, the fastest connections from Ireland to the UK are the ferries between (1) Larne and Cairnryan – 2 hours, (2) Dublin and Holyhead (2 hours and 15 mins), and (3) Belfast and Cairnryan with just 2 hours and 15 minutes sailing.

There are 7 ferry routes between Ireland and the UK which are operated by 3 different ferry companies: P&O Ferries, Stena Line, and Irish Ferries. Depending on which route you sail you'll board one of the ferries of these companies.

Tickets are available from around โ‚ฌ30,- but most of the time tickets on the shorter routes will cost you about โ‚ฌ40,-. On the somewhat longer routes, you'll pay a bit more, and if it is a night crossing you will pay an extra for the cabin on board.

When travelling from the UK to Ireland and vice versa a Passport is recommended but for Irish and UK citizens not required. You always need to be able to ID yourself, however.
