Brittany Ferries is offering free child travel on its available routes to France and Spain. Children aged 15 and under travel free on the child passenger fare when travelling with a full-paying adult.
The offer covers travel between 16 October 2026 and 22 February 2027, including October half term, Christmas and February half term. Bookings must be made by 23:59 on Monday 21 September 2026.

The promotion applies to all available Brittany Ferries routes during the travel period. Sailings and availability vary by route, particularly outside the main summer season.
Why this is a useful family ferry offer
This is a genuinely broad offer. It is not restricted to one route, a particular ticket type or families travelling by car. Foot passengers can use it too, while motorists can travel with their own car, campervan or caravan.
Taking your own vehicle is particularly practical with children. There are no airline luggage limits to work around, and you can bring child seats, pushchairs, coats, toys and the rest of the family holiday kit without trying to fit everything into a couple of suitcases.
The important detail is that only the child passenger fare is free. Cabins, reserved accommodation, meals, pets and other optional extras remain chargeable. On longer crossings, those additions can form a significant part of the final price.
Which route should you choose?
For Normandy, look first at Portsmouth-Caen or Portsmouth-Cherbourg. These routes can save considerable driving compared with arriving around Calais, particularly if you are heading towards western Normandy or further south.
For Brittany and western France, Portsmouth-Saint-Malo and Plymouth-Roscoff are usually the more logical choices. Saint-Malo is particularly attractive if the walled city, Mont-Saint-Michel or the northern Brittany coast is part of your holiday.
For Spain, Brittany Ferries sails directly to Bilbao and Santander from Portsmouth, with selected Santander sailings from Plymouth. These longer crossings are particularly useful for family road trips because you arrive in northern Spain with your own vehicle and avoid the long drive through France.

Our family experience with Brittany Ferries
We have travelled with two children on Brittany Ferries between Saint-Malo and Portsmouth and from Portsmouth to Cherbourg.
The ships were well suited to family travel, with children’s play areas, arcade games, outside decks and entertainment on board. On our daytime Saint-Malo crossing, the children even managed to sleep on the sofas, although in hindsight a cabin would have made nap time considerably easier.
That is worth considering when using this offer. Free child fares can reduce the basic crossing price, but the cabin and sailing time may matter more than the lowest headline fare, especially on an overnight crossing or a longer sailing to Spain.

This is one of the more useful Brittany Ferries family offers because it covers different ticket types, vehicles and foot passengers rather than one narrowly defined crossing.
It is particularly worth checking for an October half-term break to France, a Christmas trip or a February half-term holiday. Families considering Spain may see a meaningful saving too, although cabins and other accommodation can still make the final booking considerably more expensive.
Choose the route based on your complete journey, not simply the lowest ferry fare. A slightly more expensive crossing that reduces driving or gives the family a proper night’s sleep can still be the better deal.
