Stena Line sells three fare types: Economy, Flexi and Premium. Economy is not a temporary offer but the standing cheapest price, and it is the fare most offer codes are applied to. How much you save differs per sailing. When we tested the booking for two foot passengers on Harwich to Hook of Holland in January 2026, Flexi was £12 more than Economy and Premium £38 more.
In a nutshell
- Economy: the lowest price. A change costs an amendment fee plus any difference in fare, and there is no refund if you cancel.
- Amendment fee: depends on the route, from £5 per single journey for a foot passenger to £55 for a vehicle on some routes.
- Flexi: no amendment fee, you only pay a fare difference. Cancel up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund less a small cancellation fee, or up to 2 hours before for 50%.
- Premium: no amendment fee, and a full refund less a small fee up to 2 hours before departure, plus extras on board depending on the route.
Our tip
We take Flexi seriously because of something that happened on another ferry trip. Our car developed a serious problem and we had to change our crossing. Having a flexible ticket saved us roughly £700. If the difference is only a few pounds, as it was in our test, Flexi is cheap insurance.
Our verdict
Choose Economy when your dates are fixed, for example a short break with a hotel already booked. With a car, a long drive to the port or a trip months ahead, look at the price of Flexi first.
