The point of this trip is the shop on board: since Brexit, duty-free is back on sailings between Britain and Ireland. A return ticket for a tenner, a few hours at sea and a boot full of cheaper spirits, wine and perfume. On Holyhead to Dublin you can also spend a few hours in Dublin between sailings.

Check the allowances before you shop: the limits for bringing alcohol and tobacco back into the UK are explained in our duty-free guide. Stena Line runs an almost identical £10 day trip, so pick whichever sailing times suit you.
Our verdict
