Why go

If Sweden is the holiday, Gotland deserves a few days of it. It lies off the east coast in the Baltic, with Viking history, the medieval walls of Visby, 92 medieval churches and a coastline of cycling routes and sandy beaches. It has become a food island too, with local produce and craft breweries (VisitSweden).

From Gotland, smaller ferries reach Stora Karlsö and Lilla Karlsö (M/F Stora Karlsö), and no trip is complete without the short free ferry to Fårö (Fårösund ferry information).
