Barcelona to Mallorca: Palma or Alcúdia?
Three companies sail from Barcelona to Mallorca: Baleària, Trasmed and GNV. All three go to Palma, the capital, mostly overnight. If you would rather sail by day, Baleària’s fast ferry goes to Alcúdia in the north-east in 3h30, the quickest way from Barcelona to the island.

The slower ferries are often cheaper!
The boats that sail slower are often cheaper to book. If you are cruising at night, a slower crossing can even be useful due to more logical departure and arrival times. Arriving at 6:00 is often just a bit more convenient than arriving in the middle of the night.

Night or day? The overnight ferry saves a hotel night and puts you in Palma first thing in the morning; book a cabin if you want to sleep properly. The daytime fast ferry to Alcúdia is the choice if you want to arrive the same afternoon and are heading for the north of the island, Pollença or Alcúdia’s beaches.
Departure from Barcelona
Check the terminal on your ticket first: the operators use different terminals in the port of Barcelona. GNV and Trasmed use the ferry terminal on Moll de Sant Bertran, near the bottom of the Ramblas. Baleària currently uses different terminals depending on the sailing; in March 2026 the Port of Barcelona announced a new Baleària terminal on the Moll Adossat, planned for 2027. Allow time to get between terminals. Arriving from the north by car, allow extra time for the city traffic; from the south and west the B-10 ring road is quicker.

In Palma the ferries dock at the commercial port west of the cathedral, about 4 km from the old town. Alcúdia’s port is next to the town and its beach. More about the island in our Mallorca ferry guide.

The quickest crossing is Barcelona to Alcúdia on Baleària’s fast ferry, 3 hours 30 minutes. Overnight ferries to Palma take about 6 hours 30 minutes to 7 hours 45 minutes.
One-way fares for foot passengers start from about €15 with GNV and €23 with Baleària. With a car, a cabin and in high summer, a return for two can easily cost a few hundred euros.

I am reading this article two days after I got back from Barcelona. The port is huge, and maybe you could use some information on where to find the ferry you are looking for. Speaking in Barcelona, Ferry Go Go, please do an article on public transport in this city, as it is extremely confusing!
