There used to be a direct ferry route from the Netherlands to Kristiansand, starting with the crossing from Eemshaven. It later moved to Emden, Germany, before the service was discontinued altogether.ย ย

Ferries to Kristiansand: your options

Since the long ferry crossings from Eemshaven to Kristiansand are no longer operating, letโ€™s look at the routes that are still active. As mentioned earlier, you can still take a ferry from Hirtshals, located in northern Denmark, to Kristiansand. You can also bring your car, camper, or caravan onboard

Hirtshals-Kristiansand

For this crossing, you have the option to choose between two different ferry companies: Color Line and Fjord Line. Both offer comfortable crossings where you can bring your car or other vehicles onboard.

The main difference is that Fjord Line offers the Fjord FSTR, a catamaran ferry that makes the journey much faster, providing the quickest crossing between Denmark and Norway. Meanwhile, Color Line operates the Color Line SuperSpeed, also a fast ferry.

Together, there are at least four ferries daily to Kristiansand from Denmark, and during the high season, even more ferries are available.

Wanneer je met de veerboot vanuit Hirtshals naar Kristiansand wil reizen kun je kiezen voor een overtocht met Fjord Line of met Color Line. Er zijn fast ferries en gewone veerboten. Voor de snelle veerboot ben je iets meer geld kwijt maar dan is de overtocht wel een uur korter.

This is the direct crossing from Northern Germany to Oslo. It's aboard a cruiseferry with plenty of entertainment, and it includes an overnight stay. We've made this trip ourselves and can really recommend it. For most passengers from the European mainland this is the most logical holiday route.
