Here's how you can take the ferry to Algeria

Ferries to Algeria sail from France, Spain and Italy to seven Algerian ports: Algiers, Oran, Béjaïa, Skikda and Annaba, and from Spain also Mostaganem and Ghazaouet. Most crossings take between 11 hours and a full day, and the busiest time by far is the summer, when many families of Algerian origin travel home with their cars.

Algeria by ferry in a nutshell
  • From France: Marseille and Sète to Algiers, Béjaïa, Oran and Skikda (Algérie Ferries, Corsica Linea, GNV), about 20 to 23 hours
  • From Spain: Almería to Oran in about 11 hours, plus Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante to Algiers, Oran and Mostaganem
  • From Italy: Civitavecchia to Annaba with GNV, about 24h30
  • Peak season: mid-June to mid-September; book early for a car and cabin
  • Visa: British citizens need a visa for Algeria, arranged before you travel
  • From the UK: no direct ferry; drive to Marseille, Sète or Spain

Ferries from France to Algeria

France has the most sailings. Corsica Linea sails from Marseille to Algiers (about 23 hours, up to three times a week in summer and about weekly in winter), Béjaïa (about 22 hours) and, in summer, Skikda. From Sète it sails to Béjaïa every two weeks. GNV sails Sète to Algiers and Sète to Béjaïa, both about 20 hours. The national company Algérie Ferries sails from Marseille and Sète to several Algerian ports, with a much bigger programme in the summer season.

Ferries from Spain to Algeria

From Spain the crossings are shorter. Almería to Oran takes about 11 hours (around 12 hours on the way back) and sails about once a week; since July 2026 the former Trasmediterránea routes from Almería, including Almería to Ghazaouet, are run by Baleària. Baleària also sails Barcelona to Algiers (since January 2025), Barcelona to Oran and Valencia to Mostaganem. From Alicante there are sailings to Oran, including Algérie Ferries in summer.

Ferries from Italy to Algeria

GNV sails Civitavecchia to Annaba, near Rome, in about 24h30, the only regular link between Italy and Algeria. Coming from Tunisia? There is no ferry between the two countries, so go by road.
